And it also is a major structural member of the fender, seat and pillion support assembly. If you take it off I recommend at least getting a machinist/welder type to connect the short end of the lower part of the upright and then have it all rechromed or powder coated. I decided to leave mine on for this season as I do use bungies to lash items to it. Max
